Is Surrogacy legal in Colombia?
Yes, with supreme court decisions, the practice is allowed and supported by constitutional interpretations, with several legal precedents established over the last 10 years.
Are there any restrictions on the Nationality of Intended Parents?
There are no restrictions on nationality of intended parents, however the exit process from Colombia could be longer in the case that the newborn needs to apply for a visa in order to go back home.
Who is going to be on the birth certificate?
Initially, the gestational carrier and the biological Intended Parent are listed on the birth certificate. However, a legal process is carried out in order to remove the gestational carrier’s name, allowing both Intended Parents (IPs) to be listed on the birth certificate instead.
How long does the Surrogacy Process take in Colombia?
Typically takes from 18 to 24 months.
What Is The Average Time For The Exit Process After Birth?
Intended Parents should always allow for flexibility at birth as each process is unique. The average time in Colombia will be 3 – 6 weeks and will depend on your country of citizenship.
